Brendle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. No other injuries were reported.
The crash closed I-75 North and one of the southbound lanes and kept traffic backed up for at least six hours.
Two semi trucks, a work van and a work pickup truck were involved, according to Dayton police.
Around 10:55 a.m. Thursday, an Amazon semi truck was in the right lane of I-75 North when it failed to maintain assured clear distance and hit the back of a cargo van that was slowing down, according to a crash report.
The impact pushed the van into a 2022 Dodge Ram that was stopped in traffic. The van also hit a second semi truck in the middle lane.
The Amazon semi truck continued to push the van, causing it to hit the concrete median.
For five hours, traffic was detoured through downtown Dayton, causing several street backups.
The highway reopened around 4 p.m.
The Dayton Police Department Traffic Services Unit is continuing to investigate.
